How Will The Chicago Cubs Preform Next Year?

The Chicago Cubs have had a very interesting history as a professional baseball team. The team has been all over the place being good in some years and bad in others. For instance, the Cubs won the world series in 1907 and in 1908, but then didn't win a world series until 2016. Now after the high of winning, the Cubs have been a relatively average team since their world series win. Like many other Cubs fans, we always wonder when it will be our next winning season, and how we will perform in the next season. I always wonder at the end of each season; how will the Chicago Cubs perform next year?

Attempting to predict your favorite teams next season can be very challenging since there are many moving parts in a major league sports team. The main factors that I take into account when making predictions for how the Cubs will perform next year, are their current roster, player development, the competition, and what moves they make offseason.

The Cubs roster have been moving into a rebuilding phase, mainly placing their focus on new, young talent. Naturally, this will switch up their roster in great deal. Current players like Nico Hoerner, Christpoher Morel, and Justin Steele are expected to have a much more significant roles in the next season. These young players are already very solid, but with even more progress during the off season, they could be the foundation of a new competitive team. Even prospects such as Brennen Davis and Pete-Crow Armstrong have promise of becoming skillful players for the Cubs next season. Giving newer and young players more support and coaching can mold then into much better players. Pitching is also equally important for a rebuild and for a young, healthy roster of players. I think besides Justin Steele, the Cubs need to add depth to their bullpen and focus more on pitching since that may be the most important part of a team.

The competition like in any sport, is constantly changing for baseball with teams acquiring fresh players, and trading others. I believe it is in the best interest of the Cubs to place a focus on any moves other teams are making. Since the Cubs play in the NLC (national league central), they play closer teams like the St. Louis Cardinals or the Milwaukee Brewers. I especially think the Cubs should focus more on teams they will be playing against more. Cubs' new talent also plays a crucial role in competition since they can get a wildcard spot or even compete for a division title.

Lastly, offseason moves that the Cubs franchise make are a critical factor for the team's success. In more recent years, the Cubs front office has shown they have no issues with spending for players or with trades. If the front office is smart in this upcoming offseason, they can make very good trades and acquire new, prosperous players for the team. Acquiring a new powerful hitter or making a trade to help strengthen the bullpen would be a smart decision.

If the Cubs make smart offseason trades and acquisitions, beef up their bullpen for pitching, focus on their immediate competition, and develop their youngers players, I predict they could be a very fierce team for next year's season.
